Recent run summaries

Just felt like giving a recap of my recent running activities. This past Saturday, the weather was great so I had planned to give barefoot running a try in East Haven, CT. However, after a quick 1/3 mile loop outside my fiancee’s place and seeing broken glass and other strange stuff on the ground, I determined it was a good setting for my Vibram Five Fingers. I ended up doing a nice three mile jog with no issues.

After taking Sunday off to watch football and relax, I hit the pavement last night after a solid weight training session. It was night-time, so I had my head-lamp out and ended up going about 2.75 miles (2.25 in VFF’s, 0.5 barefoot.) This time though I noticed a sore, bruise-like feeling in the ball of my right foot. I’m not exactly sure what caused it, as I haven’t really had that issue since switching to barefoot or the Vibram’s, so we’ll see if it continues when I go for another run tonight. Maybe it was that I was hitting harder than usual due to being a bit tired from the weights?

On another topic, I’m currently reading Dean Karnaze’s book, Ultra Marathon Man: Confessions of an All-Night Runner, and I recommend it to all fans of running (or just amazing human feats/adventures in general.) Everytime I pick the book up I end up wanting to go out and run a 100 mile ultra-marathon!

1.5+ miles barefoot today through downtown Mystic, CT, on my way to the gym, then a run back home in my VFF’s after weights. Not too shabby!
