…but I bought a pair of running shoes. There was a combination of forces at play that caused me to get them, but I ended up buying a pair of Inov-8 F-Lite 230‘s. Here are a few of my reasons (excuses?) for buying them:
1. Other than my Vibram Five Finger KSO’s, I’ve never really run in a “minimalist” shoe and these are supposed to have a fairly low heel…so it’s kind of a test to see if there are any decent minimalist shoes out there.
2. I’ve potentially found my first trail race (Bimbler’s Bash 10K) and am not 100% comfortable running on rocky/root-y terrain barefoot or in the VFF’s quite yet.
3. There seem to be a fair amount of people in the Minimalist Runner Google Group I’m subscribed to that enjoy Inov-8′s shoes, so they can’t be all bad!
4. I currently still use my Nike’s for my trail run/hikes and would like to at least start the transition towards more minimalist footwear for this purpose (maybe VFF KSO Trek’s in future?)
5. (Bonus reason) They come in an awesome blue color that will make me look like a professional runner…even as a bunch of amateurs fly by me!

Infidel!! Heheh, nah its ok man. It’s probably better to keep your feet safe when you aren’t sure of their ability to tackle a harder trail.
Personally, I upped my distance on a trail yesterday in my VFF’s, and my feet are a little sore today. I’m sure that if I had tried to do much more they’d probably be prime for a stress injury.
