| Alternative Footwear – When I’m not running barefoot, I’ve been known to rock some of these alternatives to “normal” shoes… |
Vibram Five Fingers Sprint – Just bought these as a backup to my KSO’s (to hold me over until the Bikila’s come out!) I haven’t worn them a whole lot and they definitely need some breaking-in, but once I get back out there running I’ll work them into the rotation. |
Vibram Five Fingers KSO – I’ve had my KSO’s for a few months now and have ran multiple races in them already. With snow/ice on the ground, this is my footwear of choice, as it allows you to run similarly to if you were barefoot, without worrying about your feet freezing or the road salt dissolving your feet (does that happen?) |
Inov-8 F-Lite 230 – Currently using these for trail running. They feature a low heal-to-toe drop with minimal padding. Until I get the courage to run with the VFF’s on a trail without the fear of breaking a toe, these will be my footwear of choice and I plan to use them in a couple upcoming trail races. |
New Balance MT100 – Just bought these highly rated trail running shoes as something to both test out and to rotate with my Inov-8′s. Not a lot of mileage on them yet at the moment, but hopefully I can get some serious miles in them soon! |
Terra Plana Vivo Barefoot Oak – I’ve started wearing these to work almost every day and as long as you’re cool with their moccasin-like design, they’re great! Very thin sole when you take out the insole and a perfect way to get away with going “barefoot” at work. If you want more details, check out Jason’s review at Barefoot Chronicles, where he agrees that they are pretty awesome. |
Soft Star Grippy Suede Roo – I saw a review of these on BirthdayShoes.com and figured that since my old slippers were getting a bit nasty with old age, I’d invest in these custom made moccasins…and I have NOT been disappointed. They are very well made and I’ve worn them out in town when I’m running errands, as the bottom is very sturdy and can handle the abuse (as long as you’re not scuffing your feet…not sure how long they’d last then.) |
Vibram Five Fingers Bikila – I’m debating whether to get a pair of these after the KSOs and Sprints wear out. I’ve heard good things, but the sole is even thicker than the KSO, which was a bit too thick to begin with for my taste. We’ll see though… |
Nike Moto6 – I wore these up till when I bought the VFF KSO’s and to be honest, I never suffered any major injuries. They got me through the first (and only up to this point) half-marathon of my life, so I can’t complain too much, but I’ve already noticed less “wear and tear” and increased recovery time since switching to barefoot and minimalist shoes. |
